I have sent an email to all of the blog authors that I read ( those whose email I can get hold of ) who are involved in pre-hospital and accident and emergency (or ER) care, to try and get a new blog carnival up and running that serves our own unique specialist areas. I have been reading blogs for a while now and often go and have a look at the latest editions of “Change of Shift” or ” Grand Rounds”. These are two specialist blog carnivals serving the topics of nursing and medicine respectively.
There is, as far as I can tell, no active carnival for Paramedics, EMT’s, Firefighters, and Accident and Emergency (or ER) blogs.
For those who are unaware of blog carnivals, these are regular posts which act almost like a periodic journal for blog readers to go to, to get a snap shot of what is happening on specialist blog sites.
I see it working in such a way that various blog authors take it in turns to ‘host’ the carnival (once a month seems like a good frequency initially). I will set up the carnival itself on the carnival website and will be the facilitator for the carnival. There will be a set date once a month for submission of a post to be included in the carnival. This may follow a theme picked by the carnival host for that month (e.g time wasters, cardiac jobs etc), or may just be an opportunity for a blog author to submit one of their favourite posts from the past. The carnival host will then write a post which introduces the various articles and blogs, along with a link to the blog post itself.
Once the carnival is established, it should provide a really good platform for allowing alot of readers to become aware of the range of blogs out here and should increase readership through cross promotion of all of our blogs.
All of the emails I have received back so far are all positive and all seem very keen for this to take off.
The next thing to do is to choose a name for the carnival…
I am not the most inventive of people and all I can come up with so far is .
- The Handover
- Just a little scratch
See, told I wasn’t very good! Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
All I ask at this point is that if you are a blog author in this subject and I have not emailed you, could you please get in contact with me at email@example.com and let me know if you would like to be involved in the carnival. If you have read this and you think it is a good idea, why not let your other blogger friends know and see if they would like to be involved.
Mine is a fledgling blog and I’m sure that if you are a blogger, your readership will be far greater than mine. Maybe you could put a quick post on your site linking to this post so that we can get as many bloggers on board as possible.
I look forward to getting any comments, either directly to this post or to my email.
